U.S. Mr. Gay brings together contestants representing the nation’s most prestigious cities, a wide variety of celebrity judges, performers, and hosts, as well as spectators from all around the country. A series of competitive categories and performances will culminate in the naming of the 2012 U.S. Mr. Gay titleholder. The winner of this competition will go on to compete in International Mr. Gay (IMG). The IMG Competition is the largest and oldest running international contest to select an ambassador or spokesman to support the mission of the sponsoring nonprofit corporation, the Noble Beast Foundation.

With a year of experience under his belt, Yelk believes that the U.S. Mr. Gay Competition in Philadelphia will again raise the event’s profile and visibility. “We built a lot of momentum in 2010. Philadelphia’s regional LGBT community members opened their arms wide and embraced the opportunity to be the first east coast host for U.S. Mr. Gay,” said Yelk. “But last year was just the beginning, and I guarantee that 2011 will be a bigger, better, and more fabulous event.”

US Mr. Gay Competition set for Philadelphia the weekend of November 19, 2011.

Last year's winner, Eddie Rabon representing Columbia, South Carolina, is shown here at the Liberty Bell wearing his US Mr. Gay for 2011 sash. Eddie won his title at last year's event and will be there on November 19th to turn his title over to the US Mr. Gay for 2012. The US Competition was awarded to Philadelphia producer Bruce Yelk again this year after his huge success producing the first US Competition on the East Coast last year of the seven year history of the US Competition started by the Noble Beast Foundation in 2005.

This year the men competiting to reprsent the US at the International Mr. Gay Competition will gather in Philadelphia on November 18th to begin their series of competitive events leading up to the US Finals on stage on the evening of the 19th. The panel of judges will again include Village Voice columnist Michael Musto and Ryan Nickalus and TJ Kelly from Logo's "The A-List." Musto spelled out his criteria for the 2012 Mr. Gay. "An intelligent and personable guy who happens to be good-looking, not the other way around. I want someone who can represent all gays by being an individual – someone with spunk, spirit and smarts worthy of our community's respect.”

The US Finals

over the November 19th weekend in Philadelphia are just one of over 20 world finals that have or will take place to pick the ONE guy who will represent his nation. How tough is that? We have been at this for six years now and we can tell you that it's an amazing process and, well, someone has to be the guy to represent us all for 2012. The interesting thing is that the 20 men who show up to compete, both for the US Finals and the International Grand Finale, are all BIG WINNERS. They won their homeland's national Competition; they are attractive and well spoken (in many languages), and they understand the mission of the Noble Beast Foundation and are willing to support that mission.

We are truly blessed with a group of outstanding men who become our Ambassadors to the world. They are their nation's representative and they also step onto the world stage to represent us all. We spend a big chuck of their time when they are attending the International Mr. Gay (IMG) Competition to train them to be World Ambassadors. They are all our winners who have learned the message our Foundation exists to deliver - and they take those words out to the world to end homophobia.

The global state of our rights ranges from the relative safety of some of the more liberal Western Societies to the prospect of being imprisoned and executed for being gay in other parts of our world. So, although you think gay rights are fine or think this is frivolous, we don't believe our mission has been accomplish. We don't believe it's time to just party - although we are good at that - but we do believe we need to do some work and these are our trained spokesmen. We are proud of the work they do and want to honor them for their courage in standing up in front of the world and saying not only that I am gay but that gay is good.

US Mr. Gay

US Mr. Gay for this year is Eddie Rabon; he succeeds 2009 winner Adam Boyles from Huntington Beach, CA.

Hailing from Lexington, South Carolina, Mr. Rabon received a BA in Musical Theatre from Point Park University. He resides in New York City, is employed as an administrator in a private K-12 school for high-profile children and works professionally in the performing arts. Eddie volunteers with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and was a 2010 team captain of its annual Broadway Bares fundraiser. Since 1988, BC/EFA has raised over $195 million for essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.

The United States Mr. Gay Competition is set this year for Philadelphia over the November 19th weekend and brings together contestants from all over the US (click here to see their profiles), plus a wide variety of celebrity judges and performers. A series of competitive categories and performances beginning on Thursday the 17th will culminate in the naming of the 2012 US Mr. Gay titleholder, who will assume the title won last year by Eddie Rabbon from Columbia, South Carolina .

The winner of this seventh annual US Competition will go on to compete as the US Delegate to the International Mr. Gay (IMG) Competition Grand Finale next year in Chicago. The IMG Competition is the largest and oldest running international contest in the world. Held annually for six years, this global event as well as the domestic US Finals are produced to select an ambassador who will be a spokesman to support the mission of the sponsoring nonprofit Noble Beast Foundation.

The Mission of the Foundation, explains Spradlin, is to “Advocate International Equal Rights by confirming the essential nature and contributions of gay men to a healthy society until “gay” is no longer a stereotype. We are especially concerned about the damage done by our society’s acceptance of the ‘gay stereotype’ to define all gay people. We showcase gay men to show that we are not the ‘other’.”

“I’m thrilled that the national organizing committee has again selected Philadelphia to host the National Mr. Gay Competition,” said Bruce Yelk, President of Nightlifegay.com. Chilean Delegate Elected International Mr Gay

After over 20 days of voting with thousands of votes cast, the winner of the title International Mr. Gay for 2011 is Pablo Salvador from Chile. The voting took place online at www.MrGayCompetition.com beginning January 10th, 2011 and when it ended at midnight on January 31, 2011, Pablo was way ahead in the number of votes cast.

Next in the vote rankings was New Zealand’s Zann Maxwell who is now 1st Runner Up for 2011. Zann is followed by Mr. Gay Czech Republic, Martin Goga who is 2nd Runner Up.

Mr. Gay Chile assumes his title as International Mr. Gay from 2010 winner, Switzerland’s Ricco “Rimus” Müller. The 2011 class of Delegates was the largest in the six year history of the International Mr. Gay Competition which featured a total of 27 international Delegates.

The International Mr. Gay (IMG) Competition is produced by the Noble Beast Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) which depends on donations for support. The Foundation’s Mission is to “Advocate International Equal Rights by confirming the essential nature and contributions of gay men to a healthy society.” These Delegates are clearly handsome, and the Foundation’s goal is to identify men with the individual flair, charisma and intelligence to serve as a successful and popular role models in confronting gay stereotypes.
